East Hickman Baptist Church in Lexington has been faithfully stepping into a unique ministry calling: caring for the first responder community of Central Kentucky. Out of that vision, Camp Shelby was born — a non-profit retreat and outreach center created with the full support of East Hickman after acquiring land adjacent to the church. The dream is simple but profound: provide a haven for heroes, a place where first responders and their families can find rest, renewal, and encouragement.
Already, Camp Shelby has been active in the community, showing appreciation and support to police, fire, and EMS officers. This fall, they are taking another exciting step forward by hosting a Fall Festival for First Responders and their families on Saturday, November 1, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at 6418 Tates Creek Road in Lexington.

The day will be packed with activities for all ages, including axe throwing, games, inflatables, hay and pony rides, live music, a petting zoo, and face painting — plus food trucks on site. Best of all, there is no cost for first responder families to attend.
Camp Shelby’s vision is rooted in gratitude and recognition of the sacrifices first responders make daily. Their calling often comes with high stress, long shifts, and unseen burdens, and Camp Shelby seeks to provide a space where they can simply be celebrated, refreshed, and cared for. Plans are already in motion to develop the retreat property with cabins, adventure courses, trails, and other amenities designed to bless these families for years to come.
This Fall Festival is more than an event — it is a tangible expression of the love and support that the body of Christ can offer to those who continually pour themselves out for the good of others. It’s a chance to serve those who serve us so faithfully.
