Fellowship and Freshly Grilled Burgers Kick Off Equip Leadership Summer Cookouts

LEXINGTON, KY – The familiar sights and sounds of summer have returned to Lexington, and with them, the unmistakable buzz of cicadas. But on Tuesday, June 4th, the buzzing insects took a backseat to the sizzle of burgers and hot dogs on the grill as the Central Kentucky Network of Baptists (CKNB) hosted its first Equip Leadership Summer Cookout at Shillito Park.

Perfect Kentucky summer weather made for a great afternoon of fellowship and networking for local pastors and church leaders. Breaking from their usual luncheon format held in churches throughout the year, the summer cookouts are designed to foster a more relaxed atmosphere centered purely on fellowship.

Guests enjoyed a classic cookout feast of grilled burgers and hot dogs, complete with all the necessary cheeses and condiments. The casual setting allowed for rich conversations among the leaders, who spent the lunchtime connecting and discussing their various summer ministry plans. Topics of conversation ranged from Vacation Bible School (VBS) and youth camps to mission trips and much-anticipated family vacations.

The event was a perfect opportunity for those in ministry to step out of the office and enjoy a relaxed afternoon outdoors, strengthening bonds and sharing ideas in an informal setting.

One of the core beliefs at CKNB is that "we are better together." Events like the Summer Equip Cookout are a practical expression of this conviction, helping to cultivate a strong sense of community and camaraderie among church leaders in the network. The monthly Equip Leadership gatherings aim to provide a consistent space for support, growth in leadership, and personal discipline.

Special thanks to Crosswoods Baptist Church for generously donating their grill for the event and to Steve Bruce and Derek Holmes for serving as grill masters for the day, keeping the food coming and the fellowship flowing.
