This has been a week of profound sorrow and introspection. As we reflect on the tragic and senseless acts of violence that have shaken our communities—the school shooting at Evergreen High School, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the tragic death of Irena Zaretska—our hearts are heavy. These events, coupled with the solemn remembrance of another 9/11 anniversary, serve as stark reminders of the brokenness of our world and the ever-present reality of evil.
In the face of such darkness, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless. We are left with questions that have no easy answers. Why does such violence persist? How can we find peace in a world so filled with pain?
This week, let us come together in remembrance and prayer.
We remember and mourn the lives lost. We lift up the families of the victims of the Evergreen High School shooting, the family of Charlie Kirk, and all those who have been affected by this week's violence. We pray for a peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their hearts and minds as they navigate unimaginable grief.
We remember and pray for those who have been affected by witnessing the violence, the students, teachers, and members of the community who have been traumatized by these events. May they find comfort and healing, and may they know they are not alone.
We remember and honor the first responders and law enforcement officers who bravely ran toward danger to protect others. We pray for their physical and emotional well-being, for strength as they carry the heavy burden of what they have seen, and for wisdom as they work to bring justice.
In times like these, it is more important than ever to turn to the only source of true and lasting peace. The world offers many solutions, but we know that the only true path to healing begins and ends in Jesus. He is the light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness will not overcome it.
We are called not to be consumed by the darkness, but to be the light in a dark and broken world. This week, we encourage you to look to Christ for hope and strength. Lean into your faith, pray without ceasing, and be a beacon of His love and grace to those around you who are hurting.
May God grant us all the grace to remember, to mourn, and to find our hope in Him alone.
A Time to Gather in Prayer
In response to the heavy events of this week, the CKNB will host a special community prayer gathering. This will be a time set aside for the collective body of Christ to take these heavy matters to our Heavenly Father together.
Date: Sunday, September 21
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Immanuel Baptist Church, Tates Creek Campus
We realize this time coincides with many of our CKNB churches' evening worship services. We invite you to consider encouraging your congregation to gather that evening at Immanuel to seize this unique opportunity to pray in unison. We also ask that pastors and church leaders consider making this gathering known to your congregations at this weekend's services. We would love to see the worship center at Immanuel full of Central Kentucky Baptists calling out together to the Lord. Let's come together as one body, united in our grief and our hope, to seek the face of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
