Construction of Sunrise Children’s Services’ first two group homes at Solid Rock Children’s Ranch near Winchester will begin soon!
The ranch, located on a 130-acre farm, will be a place where sibling groups entering the state foster care system can live together until they are placed in foster homes or reunited with their families. Currently, many sibling groups entering the system are separated. This will also help meet the critical need in Kentucky for more housing for children entering the foster care system.
The Mississippi Nailbenders, a volunteer construction group, will be sending teams during the month of June to construct the homes. In addition, volunteers and/or groups from central and eastern Kentucky churches are welcome and encouraged to assist the Nailbenders in the various phases of construction. No construction experience or skills are required for volunteers who will be paired up to work alongside the Nailbenders.
The number of days and dates that volunteers can serve is flexible. Each volunteer or church group can make that determination. Even if individuals or groups can only serve one day or a part of a day, it would be greatly appreciated.
The Nailbenders will be working Mondays-Saturdays through the month of June. Church volunteers or groups can go to the following link to sign up to volunteer:
